She wrote: "As I left for Thailand when I was eighteen to teach English for three months my 4' 11" Nana came scurrying out of her house to say good-bye to me and this is what she said as she closed my car door. I'll never forget the smile she gave me as I drove away, like she knew a secret she would never tell me."
