2266This is Jeremy, who runs Travel Freak and is also a cocktail bartender. He says in his audio commentary that the person who told him this was his grandmother.

”As a good grandson does, I often used to eat dinner over her place. Tuna noodle casserole, or whatever it was she was cooking up that night.

”She was the one who taught me manners. She was a big Emily Post advocate, was always bringing out her books, citing different ways you’re supposed to act.

”She was also very well travelled and her teaching this etiquette represents her teaching in a way the necessity of respecting customs within different cultures.

”This quote is relevant to me because I’ve just spent 10 months in China, where eating with one’s mouth closed is not customary and definitely not often practised.

”You usually see people with food hanging out of their mouth, and spitting scraps on tables, and personally I have a problem with that.” Taken in Bangkok, Thailand on the SOTM World Tour.
