2353“So I did A level Geology, and I wasn't the brightest kid in the class, but I wasn’t the worst,” Helen says in her audio commentary.

”But it was an effort. There was one girl in the class, she would literally wake up, come to class and got an A just by turning up, because she just had that intelligence. She had it all.

”Prior to exam, during a parents’ evening, my mum and dad were told I was going to fail. I obviously got a big old roasting over this and got told to ‘put some effort in, girl’. So I did.

”I got 100% in the practical exam, I worked my socks off. On results day I got an overall D, which isn’t an E and it certainly isn’t a fail.

”The Geology teacher came up to me and told me this, in relation to the girl who just turned up and got top grades easily. And it made me feel pretty good.”
